Recognized as a world authority on the works of William Shakespeare, Tina Packer, the founding artistic director of Shakespeare & Company of Lenox, Massachusetts, is taking up a five-month artistic residency at the Gym at Judson (off of Washington Square Park) to chronicle with NYC audiences the female characters in Shakespeare's canon. Women of Will is the overarching title of her five-part exploration of Shakespeare's evolution as a writer. Says Packer, "I think what most people [audiences] find surprising is how fascinated they are, that they get so involved in these characters' lives." Together with her acting partner Nigel Gore, Packer sets a lofty goal combining performance and oratory to place a mirror up to the Eternal Bard and consequently "to think deeply about what life's about." Playing now through July 2nd. Tuesday performances offer audience talkbacks after the show.
